Today, attitudes toward sustainability have fundamentally changed—it is now almost a prerequisite for a company’s long-term success to actively participate in environmentally friendly initiatives.

As consumers worldwide increasingly demand sustainable products in various areas, every industry is challenged to adapt to meet these expectations. Customers in the furniture sector are no exception: sustainable furniture—for living spaces, offices, or public areas—is especially in demand today.

KINNLS’s mission, as defined in the KINNLS philosophy, is “Bring Happiness For All”, while our vision is “Create Your Inspired Lifestyle”. We have always been committed to the common good. Therefore, our business actions align with the vision of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our sustainability strategy stems from the clear commitment to make a positive contribution to society and the environment.

How KINNLS responds

Five key trends

  • Reduced emissions

  • Sustainable financing

  • Sustainable supply chain

  • Circular solutions

  • Sustainable consumption

While we focus on making your home as comfortable as possible, it is equally important to keep the environment outside your four walls healthy and safe.
That’s why we rely on leading sustainable manufacturing practices and use recycled materials.

By reducing our consumption of electricity, water, and other resources while minimizing the amount of waste sent to landfills, we continuously optimize our processes—creating more value in every single product.

1. Energy-efficient use of wood residues

By drying wood before burning it—instead of storing it outdoors—we can extract nearly twice as much usable BTU energy from an already sustainable fuel.
Our production facility in California operates especially efficiently by using recycled wood chips and sawdust as an energy source.

2. Transition to LED lighting

By fully switching to LED lights, we were able to reduce our energy consumption by 60%.
At the same time, the use of fluorescent tubes is eliminated, completely removing a source of hazardous waste.

An additional benefit: The improved lighting of the production halls increases visibility and enables even more precise quality control of the wood – resulting in a significant and sustainable reduction in energy consumption.

3. Reduction and recycling of packaging material

We use special machines that cut plastic film exactly to the required length. This saves so much plastic that it corresponds to a length of over 96 kilometers.

We also recycle the polypropylene protective caps attached to the furniture legs.
In the past ten years, we have recycled over 22,600 kilograms of materials that would otherwise have ended up in landfills – significantly reducing the packaging waste of our furniture.

4. Healthier materials and clean air

We use surface coatings with low levels of volatile organic compounds (Low-VOC) as well as low hazardous air pollutants (Low-HAP), including many water-based lacquers for our upholstered furniture.
This keeps the air clean – from our workshops to your home.

In our upholstery workshops, every piece of furniture starts with a frame made of technically processed hardwood, mostly sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Around this frame, our craftsmen lay low-VOC fiber fleeces and CertiPUR-US®-certified foams – without ozone-depleting substances, carcinogenic flame retardants, or formaldehyde.
The result is a durable foundation for years of comfort and coziness.

5. Revitalization of unused areas

As early as 2011, we took measures to revive a useless property. These included:

  • the removal of diesel tanks and their foundations to prevent groundwater contamination

  • the proper disposal of asbestos from abandoned buildings

  • the classification and removal of lead-containing paints

  • the removal of garbage and construction debris as well as the filling with clean soil

  • the donation of a historic railway turntable to a community museum
